Biathlon combines cross country skiing (winter) or running (summer) and precision marksmanship. The races are organized by laps of skiing separated by a round of shooting. Typically, each missed target during a participant’s shooting round results in a penalty loop of a specific number of meters. The resulting combination of high intensity aerobic activity with the discipline and concentration of Olympic-styled marksmanship challenges the cadets to effectively balance athletics with focus.
The Cadet Marksmanship Program is a challenging and competitive sports program accessible to all cadets. It develops skills through superior training and Olympic-style competition. This fun and rewarding program is enjoyed by thousands of cadets every year. Cadets have the opportunity to participate in a series of competitions at the local level that culminate in provincial/territorial competitions and an annual National Cadet Marksmanship Championship.
The Canadian Cadet Organization offers a progressive music training program that is complementary to the core cadet training program. Cadet Corps and Squadrons that offer music training root it in the historical tradition of marching military. Regardless of local programming, cadets with an interest in music can apply for summer training opportunities ranging from 3 to 6 weeks in length. Music training challenges cadets, and enhances their concept of community service, teamwork, leadership.
From basic drill movements to percision drill teams, all cadets will learn how to properly execute drill as one unit. Drill can be preformed in many ways, from basic standing drill to drill with rifles, flags or instruments.
Keeping cadets active with different activities and friendly competitions. Cadets will participate in sports and take part in the Cadet Fitness Assessment and Incentive Program
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global program with the goal of challenging, empowering and recognizing young people.
Cadets and JCR programs are open to all youth age 12 to 18 that are Canadian citizens or are authorized to reside in Canada. Although, the program is expected to be physically and mentally challenging, there will be no artificial barriers developed which preclude participation based on gender, race, culture, religion, education, socioeconomic status or ability. The programs will make reasonable efforts to accommodate.
The development of the Cadet Program is guided by the best of Canadian military values and ethics. These values include respecting the dignity of all people, serving Canada before self, and obeying and supporting lawful authorities. Additionally, cadets will gain better appreciation of the specific values of duty, loyalty, integrity, courage, stewardship, and excellence as expected of all CAF members.
The Cadet Program helps participants progressively develop into adults who contribute positively to Canadian society as leaders, while instilling a lifelong appreciation of health and fitness.
Youth and their parents will have confidence that the activities and events the Cadets deliver are challenging, yet safe. They will also be confident that the adults leading the program are of unquestionably high moral characters and are focused on the development of the Cadets.
Over 57 000 youth, aged 12-18, supervised and led by over 9000 military and civilian members; supported by their communities, sponsors, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Navy, Army Cadet and Air Cadet Leagues of Canada.
In over 1200 Cadet Corps and Squadrons in over 800 communities from coast-to-coast. Cadets also gain experience at 22 Cadet Training Centres, 32 sailing sites, 34 expedition sites and 59 flying sites and across the country.
Cadets generally run activities one night per week, and one weekend per month, with additional opportunities for unique experiences during the summer and throughout the year.
By offering the experience of a peer-led program that is open to all youth, in a safe, yet challenging environment focusing on unique activities that will leave a positive lifelong impact.
